Ubuntu easter eggs

December 8, 2010 Leave a comment

Recently I came across an interesting easter egg in Ubuntu 10.04. Then I looked on the Internet for some more, and here is the list of most interesting ones.

  • Press Alt+F2 (in Gnome) and type (without the quotes):
    • free the fish“. Click on fish to make it swim away. I am not sure how to remove it, though.
    • gegls from outer space“. You get a space invader game with cows and fish. The instructions for playing the game are on the bottom of the game screen.
  • Another easter egg is in terminal. Here is the screenshot, you’ll get the idea what to type.

Terminal Easter Egg

  • If you want to find alternative names for Ubuntu releases, type this code in Terminal

zgrep “The.*Release” /usr/share/doc/dpkg/changelog.Debian.gz

This is what I got:

The “Good, clean fun” Release.
The “Bully’s Special Prize” Release.
The “On like Donkey Kong” Release.
The “In like Flynn” Release.
The “Maidenhead Creeping Water Plant” Release.
The “Just kidding about the God part” Release.
The “Flatulent Elm of West Ruislip” Release.
The “Or the Wabbit gets it” Release.
The “Paying off Karma at a vastly accelerated rate” Release.
The “Mysteriously Unnamed” Release.
The “Livin’ like a good boy oughta” Release.
The “Three banana strategy” Release.
The “Awh, yeah?  Ripper!” Release.
The “Grab your gun and bring in the cat” Release.
The “Captain Tight-Pants” Release.
The “你他媽的天下所有的人都該死” Release.
The “Donald, where’s your troosers?” Release.
The “Let the Wookie win” Release.
The DebConf4 Release.

  • This easter egg is from Open Office Spreadsheet (or Calc). Open it, and type in any cell “=Game(“StarWars”)”. Star Wars game like Space Invaders will appear.

That’s all, folks.
